Science Museum, Greenwich, and The Pride

This week has been our second full week of school. On Monday, I had my classes as usual. On Tuesday, I went to the science museum in the morning for my neuroscience. I took the tube to the museum since it was 3.5 miles away. The museum itself is six floors; however, not as large as the Minnesota Science Museum. Our homework was to go to the Science and Medicine exhibit. At 10:30am it was eerily quiet in the exhibit. The exhibit was interesting as it went from ancient medicine to recent medicine, but I did not like how the exhibit was laid out. It seemed more like five people made five exhibits that they put together instead of creating one large exhibit, but I digress. After wandering through the exhibit for an hour, I walked to the teaching site three miles away. Unfortunately it was lunch hour and hot so it was not the most pleasant walk, but I got there.

That evening we went to the play, The Pride. As described by their website, "Philip, Oliver and Sylvia exist in a complex love triangle which spans over half a century, living and loving simultaneously in 1958 and the present against a background of changing attitudes towards homosexuality. Past and present worlds grind together and melt apart, yet the future and its promise of sexual liberation remains ever elusive, as societal repression gives way to self-deception. The Pride is Alexi Kaye Campbell's hilarious and heart-felt landmark play about courage, compassion and the fear of loneliness in life’s journey towards self-discovery. " It was only four actors; however, all four were wonderful. The play was dark and dramatic, not my typical cup of tea, but I enjoyed seeing it. We also had wonderful seats in Row C in the main stalls so we were really close!

Yesterday, we had to get up super early to go to Greenwich. Then we had a walking tour of the area. I was expecting it to be redundant since we had gone on Saturday but we saw the historical aspects of the palace, hospital, etc. After class, we booked it back on the train making one fast transfer before arriving at Tottenham Court Road (where the teaching site is). Then, I gave a presentation for Ethno-National Conflicts which went well. Over lunch, I met a lot of the students from Drew University as they share the teaching site with us. Later, I had neuroscience and then came home. In the evening we tried to plan our trip to Bath (this weekend), Edinburgh (early October), and Italy (late October). Then we went on a nice walk around Angel (the area about one mile up from us) and saw a cute cupcake place, some cool restaurants and bakeries, and interesting architecture.

Today, I have art class at the National Gallery and then we are going to the London Eye. Tomorrow we are going to the Bethlem Royal Hospital as a field trip for neuroscience, Saturday is Bath, and Sunday we are going to go to Hyde park.
